A heartwarming video of Princess Diana and a baby Prince Harry has just gone viral, gaining traction on TikTok.
The clip, taken at Harry’s christening in 1984, shows a sweet moment between the cherished royal and her youngest son.
As Prince Harry approaches his 40th birthday on September 15, this unearthed video offers as a bittersweet reminder of his early years and close relationship with his mother.
Since stepping down from royal duties in 2020, Harry has publicly expressed his thoughts regarding Diana, notably the great grief he felt following her terrible death in a Paris automobile accident when he was only 12 years old.
In his 2023 book, “Spare,” Harry discusses his emotional journey and the long-term impact of losing his mother.
Prince Harry’s Christening
The viral video was uploaded to TikTok by user @princess__jo on July 26 and has received over 396,100 views. Diana, dressed tastefully in blue, is shown compassionately caring for her infant son during the christening ceremony at St George’s Chapel, Windsor Castle, on December 21, 1984.
Senior royals, including Queen Elizabeth II and Queen Mother, attended the event, making it a historic occasion.
Prince Harry’s godparents were a mix of family members and close friends, including Prince Andrew, Lady Sarah Chatto, Carolyn Bartholomew, Bryan Organ, Gerald Ward, and Lady Celia Vestey.
Diana is seen cleaning Harry’s chin and asking his cousins, Peter and Zara Phillips, to meet him in the heartwarming video.
A voice-over from the original program catches the event, adding that “Mother knelt on the carpet to show the baby to the children, but by now a tearful Prince Harry had had enough.”
The video has received more than 34,900 likes and 144 comments, with many people expressing admiration and nostalgia.
One person said, “A beautiful clip always in our hearts,” and another said, “The best mother.” Some have even noticed a likeness between Prince Harry and his son, Archie: “Prince Archie looks just like his dad when he was a baby.”
In a 2016 documentary commemorating Queen Elizabeth’s 90th birthday, Prince William and Harry discussed their childhood recollections, including the christening footage.
Harry noted, “Mummy looks great in blue,” but expressed uncertainty about the customary christening gown, saying, “Still not convinced about the dress that I’m in!”
The christening gown, created in 1841 for Queen Victoria and Prince Albert’s eldest child, Princess Victoria, was made of English lace and has been worn by subsequent generations of royal children.
By the early 2000s, the gown had grown too fragile to continue wearing.
Queen Elizabeth II commissioned an exact replica in 2008, which was first used at the christening of her youngest grandchild, James, Earl of Wessex. Several royal children have worn this copycat gown, including Prince George, Princess Charlotte, Prince Louis, and Prince Harry’s son, Archie.
