Meghan Markle reportedly reached out to Kate Middleton in an attempt to mend fences—and Kate, too, is “willing to move forward”
According to reports, Meghan Markle has reached out to Kate to restore their shattered relationships following King Charles’ cancer diagnosis and Princess of Wales’ stomach surgery.
According to The Mirror, Meghan made the first move after her husband, Prince Harry, paid a quick visit to the United Kingdom following the global announcement that Charles had been diagnosed with an unidentified form of cancer. According to the site, Meghan has “contacted” Kate and that “moves are being made” behind the scenes, as well as reaching out to the King himself.
Following their recent health issues, “Meghan has contacted Kate and Charles,” a source told Us Weekly. “So, moves are being made to reconcile.” A second individual added: “Meghan is supportive of Harry in all of this, and she wishes the royals—Kate included—the very best.”
The same insider stated that Kate is “open” to reconciliation and “willing to move forward,” but “won’t meddle” in her husband Prince William’s relationship with Harry, which appears to be riddled with stress. “They can use this as a starting point,” they stated. “The consensus is that life is too short, and there’s hope this will lead to repairing the rift.”
They also stated that, while Meghan did not accompany Harry when he visited the King at his London home, Clarence House, earlier this month, “Meghan was in total agreement that Harry had to be there,” they added. “He got to tell his father how much he loves him and get a fuller account of what Charles is facing.”
Kate and Meghan’s tension can be seen in the infamous bridesmaid dress row during Meghan’s wedding to Harry in May 2018. Initially, reports stated that Meghan made Kate cry in the run-up to Meghan’s wedding, but Meghan explained in a 2021 interview with Oprah Winfrey that it was the opposite, and that Meghan had been “hurt” by Kate’s actions.
Harry recounted on the scenario in his 2023 memoir, Spare, writing that he discovered Meghan crying “on the floor” following a fight with Kate about Princess Charlotte’s bridesmaid outfit. Kate apparently told Meghan that there was a “problem” with the dress and that all of the bridesmaid dresses needed to be “completely remade.”
Fast forward to the present, and while it is unclear whether Kate and Meghan will meet in person, OK claims that a phone contact between them was “warm and humorous.”
“Hopefully, this can be built upon in the future weeks and months,” royal expert Richard Fitzwilliams said. “Cancer changes everything, and families should be unified, at least publicly, during this very difficult time.”
