10 Natural Ways To Cure Cough Without Taking Medications

Cough is one of the most common ailments that most people suffer from. It can be caused by flu, cold or dust, and in other cases it can be a result of allergies and smoking. Whether it is a wet or dry cough, it leads to lack of sleep and irritation in the throat.

Most often, most people take medicines prepared to treat cough when they have a cough. However, there are natural ways that can be used to deal with cough when it occurs.

1. Honey.

A teaspoon or two of honey can reduce mucus production. Honey also kills germs.

However, children under the age of 1 should not be given honey when they have a cough because it can amount to food poisoning in them.

2. Hot drinks.

Hot drinks will not relieve a stuffy head, but they can soothe a cough much better than room temperature drinks. Sip hot tea or water if you are looking for relief.

3. Ginger.

Ginger contains a substance that can cleanse the body system. It can be eaten raw, or the root can be ground and mixed with honey to form a hot tea once stirred together.

4. Water.

Taking plenty of water will not only make you stay hydrated, but it can soothe the scratches of a cough and thin the mucus in the throat.

5. Steam.

Steaming the face with hot water, covering the face, inhaling and exhaling in the process can bring relief from coughing because it helps clear the airways. For more comfort, you can add peppermint to the water.

6. Menthol.

Menthol has the ability to clear the airways. It is mostly found in rubs and mints. Take some of it and lick yourself.

7. Cough drops.

Licking or chewing a cough drop can increase the moisture in the throat, thus making relief possible.

8. Red elderberry

You can take black elderberry extract as a dietary supplement in capsules or syrup. It may not relieve your cough immediately, but it can make it go away sooner.

9. Herbs

Mixing herbs like ivy leaves, marsh aire root, thyme and anise in a syrup can reduce the number of days you’ll be dealing with a cough.

10. Air humidifier

Although keeping the air moist can help ward off dry coughs. But be especially careful with humidifiers because dust mites and mold can develop in them if you don’t keep them clean. Both can make a cough worse instead of better.
